CUSIRITATI'S AEOLIAN GASTRONOMY
ISLAND OF VULCANO
Vulcano is the island of the Aeolian caponata (aubergine stew) and spaghetti alla vulcanara (pasta with rich sauce) as well as sulphurous springs and hot mud pools.
AEOLIAN CAPONATA
AND SPAGHETTI ALLA VULCANARA
Vulcano is the closest to Sicily of the islands in the archipelago. It is formed of four small volcanoes. One of the smallest of the Aeolian islands, you will just need to hire a bicycle to explore it from one end to the other, and enjoy all its beauty. Among the appealing tastes of this island, don’t miss the “Aeolian caponata”, and “Spaghetti alla vulcanara”, which apparently have many fans. Among the typical products of Volcano, an island noted for its pastoral character, are the excellent cheeses like “Canestrato”, a typical goat's cheese, and its ricotta. Both are very well-known: tasting them in situ, and buying vacuum-packed samples to take home, are definitely excellent choices!
